The book reveals how history, bias, and unwritten rules shape corporate America, making it harder for Black men to rise—not because of lack of talent, but because of structural design.
Gaston shows that overcoming internal barriers—imposter syndrome, stereotype threat, the need to “fake it”—is essential. Authentic confidence becomes a strategic advantage.
The book teaches Black men how to read corporate culture, secure allies and sponsors, build relationships, and position themselves for leadership with intentional strategy.
Beyond individual effort, Gaston argues companies must transform—creating inclusive cultures, fair pathways, and leadership models where Black men are no longer the exception.
